How it all started...
Mountain Christian Fellowship was founded by a vision God gave to Roger & Dawn Johnson in 1987 to love and care for His people in the beautiful community of Mount Shasta, CA. For the first couple of years, MCF met at Mount Shasta City Park... worshiping Jesus, studying through His Word, and ministering to any who were seeking truth and a personal relationship with the Living God. Soon, though, the young church family was looking for a place to call home in the community they were called to serve. In 1991, God led Pastor Roger to an old, ramshackle, building on South Mount Shasta Boulevard. It was here that God would not only restore a broken building into a beautiful house of worship, but where many lives of men, women, and children would find their lives restored through Jesus Christ, as well.
Expanding the Vision...
In 2011, a heavy snowfall covered the community of Mount Shasta... and the roof of MCF. With a devastating crash, the ceiling of the church caved in on the blessedly unoccupied worship center, and a new work of restoration and expansion was begun. Not only was the building built back more beautiful than before, but new dreams and ministries were born and developed in this season, as well. A youth center and coffee house were established on the campus and the development of a new ministry to reach the young people of Mount Shasta began to take shape. A new and dynamic school ministry, Mountain Scholars, was established in 2018, and Pastor Roger saw that God was going to do more and more amazing things through MCF.
Where we are headed...
In the late spring of 2021, Pastor Roger fulfilled his decades of faithful, loving ,service to Christ's call on his life, and went home to be with the Lord. Five months later, the leadership of MCF invited John and Jen Yount, to step into the role of Lead Pastor of the church. John had served in youth ministry in Redding, CA for nearly 25 years, but knew that God was calling him and his family to begin a new adventure in the beautiful mountain community that lay to the north. Since stepping into that calling, Pastor John has seen God take so many of the beautiful things planted and rooted in the years before, and grow and develop them with wonderful grace and love. The church family at MCF lives as a testimony to God's goodness and glory, and has a passionate desire to walk in accord with the incomparable faithfulness He has shown us over the years. We want to see others in our community experience the same life-changing restoration and redemption that God has given us freely, through His Son, Jesus Christ. We long to learn from His Word, to listen to the Holy Spirit, and to love others as HE has loved us.
